The Resilient Threads project, a European Union co-funded initiative , provides professional resources to amplify Roma voices and promote intercultural understanding. This project resulted in two primary outputs: a Methodology Handbook and a Facilitator’s Guide. These documents offer a standardized framework for communication, storytelling, and public speaking within multicultural environments.
The Methodology Handbook
The Methodology Handbook establishes the core educational curriculum. It assists young Roma and non-Roma artists in advancing their performance and communication skills. The handbook contains six comprehensive modules:
Module 1: Effective Communication Basics – Participants identify key elements of the communication cycle, including sender, message, and feedback.
Module 2: Confidence Building – This unit addresses psychological barriers and provides techniques to manage public speaking anxiety.
Module 3: Body Language – Training focuses on non-verbal cues such as posture, facial expressions, and stage presence.
Module 4: Impactful Storytelling – This module covers narrative arc construction, character development, and emotional resonance.
Module 5: Creative Writing for Public Speaking – Content bridges the gap between written text and oral performance, emphasizing conversational rhythm and pacing.
Module 6: Audience Understanding – Participants learn to adapt their communication style to meet the expectations of diverse listeners.
The presentations of those modules can be found here:
The Facilitator’s Guide
The Facilitator’s Guide serves as a practical implementation tool for trainers and youth workers. It translates theoretical foundations into step-by-step instructions to ensure quality across different learning environments. Key components include:
Step-by-Step Session Flows – The guide provides recommended durations and activity instructions for each module.
Safety and Ethics – Facilitators receive guidance on maintaining psychological safety and managing emotional triggers related to personal narratives.
Pedagogical Standards – The guide emphasizes experiential learning, where knowledge is co-constructed through practice and reflection.
Adaptability – Instructions allow for the scaling of exercises for various contexts, including workshops, classrooms, or community events.
Strategic Objectives
These resources support social inclusion and educational enrichment. The project encourages the creation of positive narratives that challenge stereotypes. Ultimately, these outputs strengthen the visibility and connection between communities and generations.
